Once Upon a Farm

“Some Dapper Daffodils”

When one project ends, we jump into the next one. Such is the way of life here at Glass Tangerine, and with our new storefront buildout completed, it was time to turn our attention back to our farm. Most of our Instagram followers are familiar with our flower farm progress reports via Instagram story, and the occasional update reel to fully show how far along we are in the infrastructure of building an entire functioning farm. Today, I will be your update reel.

Over the last month, Bobbie has been going out to the farm throughout the week to make sure our seeds are happy and healthy and to split apart the baby sprouts to get them ready for planting. This is a gigantic job, seeing as we have 2500 seeds started and happily growing. Now it’s all hands on deck for our team as we enter April, because planting is on the way. You’ll be seeing Erika, me, and our newest team member, Kaitlyn, at the shop a whole lot more as Aspen and Emma are off doing their farm-girl duties.

Spring is an incredible time for us at the shop. If you’ve been in recently, you definitely noticed our enormous plant shipment covering the apothecary shelves, and a full, colorful flower bar. Warm, sunny weather makes people want to buy fresh flowers for their table, and a new plant for their home. Our flower and plant sales always go up in the Spring, so we carry significantly more. And now, with our farm beginning to see its first harvest, we will have even more locally grown flowers on our bar! Currently, the spring bulbs are coming up, and we’ve brought in more than one harvest of our daffodils! If you’re a wildflower person, you’re gonna love our sweet daffodils. A bouquet of those with some tulips? Truly perfect for these sunny spring days. (Or rainy ones, really.)

Our First Harvest

We’ve been so excited to share the fruits of our labor.

This week, the farm team is going to be fertilizing the soil to get it ready, and by mid April they will amend it with compost and till the dirt. Be ready for plenty of cute (and doubtless silly) farm pictures from this adventure. Everything we do now is gearing up for our tentative planting time — the end of April. This is heavily dependent on our last frost date, but that is the plan.

We are so thankful for our GT community’s support as we go into planting season. Knowing that so many people love the farm progress and are invested in the journey as we figure it out is truly such a blessing. So, stay tuned. Flower farm coming soon.

And since you’ve been so lovely and read all the way here, enjoy these progress pictures from the team. :)
