The Last of the Tulips
There is no doubt—Glass Tangerine has entered its busy season. Actually, busy does not accurately encompass the crazy, constant, exciting few months we’re in. From raking mushroom fertilizer on our flower farm to multiple wedding consultations in one day, there is no shortage of projects and work to be done around here. One major project we have already started work on is Mother’s Day.
Everyone expects Valentine’s Day to be insane in a flower shop, but it is not our biggest weekend of the year. Mother’s Day takes the cake by a fairly decent margin. I suppose in theory more people have moms than have a significant other, but it did surprise me on our first one after opening. Major holidays require major prep, and thus, we have started. The team sat down this week to begin placing our flower order for the big weekend, and we are truly so excited for this one. Blues, whites, peaches, yellows, and of course, lots of peonies. The process itself likely would seem silly to someone just looking in—Emma combing through the extensive list of flowers available while a group of us google to check on color and variety of the multitudes of different roses and peonies. It is not a quick process. We have to run numbers, figure out the stem counts for each bouquet we make, and just generally ensure that anyone who comes to us for their Mother’s Day flowers leaves happy.
Luckily, we love our jobs. There are few things as rewarding to each of us as someone absolutely loving an arrangement we made for them. So planning our preorder for the biggest weekend of our year is an exciting and partially daunting process. It’s made slightly more daunting by the fact that the local prom happens to be that same weekend, and we also put up a preorder for all of the lovely prom-goers that trust us to make their night. Basically, we have our work cut out for us May 9 - 11th.

For $200, you can get a stunning set of 20 photos done with your family in a one of-a-kind flower wonderland. The photos take place on April 26 & 27th, so you’ll have time to get them framed as a gift for your mom! (Or yourself, we all deserve nice pictures…) We have seen so many sweet families take part in this over the last two years, and everyone always loves their photos. Truly, they turn out unlike any other photos I’ve ever seen.

With all of these preorders live, we made it as easy as we possibly could for you to get exactly what you want in this crazy season. Small business is so personal. We get to speak directly to our community for their feedback. This month has been insane, but it’s these months where we thrive.
